Osman Zeki KARAKUŞ

Prof. Dr. Osman Zeki Karakuş was born in 1974 in Korkuteli district of Antalya. He completed his primary and secondary education in Korkuteli and high school education in Konya Atatürk Health Vocational High School in 1992. In 1994, he graduated from Hacettepe University Vocational School of Health Services, Medical Laboratory Department. He worked as a health officer and medical laboratory technician at Ankara Oncology Hospital and Samsun Mehmet Aydın State Hospital between 1992 and 2002.

After completing his medical education at Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine between 1995-2001, Prof. Dr. Karakuş worked as a general practitioner in Samsun between 2002-2003. Prof. Dr. Karakuş received his specialty training at Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Surgery between 2003-2008 and completed his military service as a Pediatric Surgery Specialist at Ankara Gülhane Military Medical Academy in 2009.

Prof. Dr. Karakuş completed his compulsory service as a Pediatric Surgery Specialist at Tokat Governor Recep Yazıcıoğlu Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital and Tokat State Hospital between 2009-2012.

In 2012, Prof. Dr. Karakuş was appointed to Dokuz Eylül University Department of Pediatric Surgery and received the title of ‘Assistant Professor’ in 2016 and ‘Associate Professor’ in 2017, and graduated from Anadolu University Faculty of Economics, Department of Public Administration in the same year.

Prof. Dr. Karakuş, who completed his master's degree in Dokuz Eylül University Institute of Health Sciences, Department of Quality Development and Accreditation in Health in 2021 and received the title of ‘Quality Management Director’, completed Anadolu University Open Education Faculty, Department of Health Management in 2022.

Prof. Dr. Karakuş, who has up-to-date knowledge and experience in congenital and acquired surgical diseases of infants, children and adolescents between the ages of 0-18, has extensive experience especially in closed method surgeries (endoscopic surgical procedures such as thoracoscopy, bronchoscopy, laparoscopy, cystoscopy, ureterorenoscopy, oesophagoscopy, gastroscopy).

Prof. Dr. Karakuş, who has a special interest in conventional (Traditional) single port laparoscopic (Closed) surgery, which can only be performed in a few centres in the world and in our country, successfully performs appendicitis, ovarian cysts in girls, varicocele in boys, meckel's diverticulum and inguinal hernia operations without visible scars with this method, which is performed by entering only through the navel with a single incision.

Prof. Dr Karakuş, who developed conventional single port laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair for the first time in the world, is married and has two children.
