According to the World Health Organization, GETAT is the whole of knowledge, skills and practices, which are based on theories, beliefs and experiences specific to different cultures, whose effectiveness can be explained scientifically or not, which are used in the prevention, diagnosis, improvement or treatment of physical and mental diseases, as well as in the maintenance of health status.

With the spread of traditional and complementary medicine, the need for standardization and control of treatment arose. The World Health Organization published the "Guidelines for Traditional Medicine Research and Evaluation Methodologies" in 2000 for the first time, and the "Beijing Declaration" promoting the safe and effective use of traditional medicine in 2014. Our country also put into effect the Regulation on Traditional and Complementary Medicine Practices in 2014 simultaneously with the world.

Standardized training in different fields has been defined and theoretical and practical training is provided by authorized centers. In the next period, the integration of traditional medicine with the health system and western medicine, and the increase in education and research will be a great development.

In a regulation published by the Ministry of Health on October 27, 2014 in order to prevent illegal and uninformed practices in the field of traditional and complementary medicine, GETAT applications have been authorized only to physicians who have successfully completed certified training programs in this field and only to dentists to practice in their own field.
