Mehmet BAŞTEMİR

He was born in Gaziantep in 1967. He graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine (English) in 1991. He became an Internal Medicine Specialist in 1998 and an Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases Specialist in 2001 at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine. Between 2005 and 2007, he worked as an Assistant Professor at Pamukkale University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases, and was the Head of the Department. He became Associate Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases in 2009. He left Pamukkale University Faculty of Medicine in 2007 voluntarily. Working as an Endocrinology and Metabolism Diseases Specialist at SANKO University Hospital in Gaziantep, Prof. Dr. Baştemir also worked as a faculty member at the Faculty of Health Sciences of SANKO University as of 2014.

prof. Dr. Baştemir has many publications published in national and international peer-reviewed journals. Although most of his studies are on Thyroid Diseases and insulin resistance, he also has studies in other fields of endocrinology.

As a researcher in three projects, Prof. Dr. These projects of Baştemir are “Scan covering 20 provinces where iodine status and prevalence of goiter in primary school children are investigated ultrasonographically before iodine prophylaxis in Turkey”, “The prevalence of goiter and thyroid nodule ultrasonographically in high school and equivalent schools in the Eastern Black Sea Region affected by the Chernobyl nuclear accident and evaluation of the prevalence of autoimmune thyroid disease” and “P-glycoprotein polymorphism in patients with hyper and hypothyroidism”. These projects were supported by TUBITAK and Ankara University Research Fund. He is a member of the European Society of Endocrinology and the Turkish Society of Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases.
