What is a swallowable gastric balloon?

It is a new generation gastric balloon that can be swallowed with water and does not require anesthesia, *endoscopy or surgery during placement and removal. It helps in losing weight due to the space it takes up in the stomach. Thanks to the feeling of fullness it creates, it allows a decrease in appetite by slowing down the passage of food through the stomach and it allows you to feel full with less food due to the volume it occupies in the stomach. It is one of the options for obesity treatment that provides results without surgery.

What are the differences between the swallowable gastric balloon and other gastric balloons?

The swallowable gastric balloon is designed to be eliminated from the body naturally in about 16 weeks. This shows its effect when compared to 6-month endoscopic balloons, as 80 percent of the weight is lost in the first 3 months. While the length of time the balloon stays in the body is minimized, the weight loss is maximized.

Swallowable gastric balloon appears to be a more reliable option with fewer side effects. It has a 10-fold lower overall rate of serious adverse effects (harmful and unintended) compared to other liquid-filled balloons and a significantly lower intolerance rate compared to 12-month endoscopic balloons (14.4 percent versus 1-3 percent).

The swallowable gastric balloon is made of vegan polyurethane, which is much more elastic and thinner than the silicone material used in endoscopic balloons. This ensures that the balloon stretches with the movement of the stomach and that the balloon is placed comfortably and completely with the harmony it provides.

The swallowable gastric balloon also brings a great innovation in patient follow-up. The advantage of natural elimination of the ingested gastric balloon also eliminates the necessity of re-admission to the hospital, endoscopy or anesthesia procedures for other balloons. This is a method that allows patients to lose weight without the need for surgery, which is frequently preferred by patients who are geographically distant from the health institution.

To whom is the swallowable gastric balloon applied?

People with a body mass index between 27 and 35 benefit most from the swallowable gastric balloon.

The fact that no anesthesia is required during the procedure is ideal, especially for those who have a disability or do not want anesthesia.

How is a swallowable gastric balloon inserted?

The insertion of a swallowable gastric balloon takes place with a doctor's visit in less than 20 minutes, without the need for hospitalization. It does not require anesthesia or endoscopy for insertion or removal.

It is enough to swallow the capsule containing a deflated balloon attached to a thin-filled string.

When the presence of a balloon in the stomach is detected with the help of x-ray, it is confirmed that the balloon, which is filled with water using a thin filling string, has been filled correctly with a second x-ray.
